Nakibisu (なきびす) is a regional dialect form of nakibeso, meaning “one prone to cry.” Only two other illustrations of nakibisu are known. One in a scroll owned by Yumoto Kōichi, which is a copy of Bakemono no e, and another in a handscroll by the Kyoto artist Murata Ryūtei 村田龍亭 titled Hyakki emaki 百鬼絵巻 (Picture scroll of one hundred demons). The colophon of this scroll is dated 1764. –Jack Stoneman
